Shapiro Family Dentistry of Boca Raton

The staff is professional and at the same time friendly. The hygienist is excellent and my dentist was great. I don’t like going to the dentist but if you have to go this the place to go.

My experience with this practice has been very disappointing. I selected HMO dental insurance and chose Shapiro as my site because the reviews about them were pretty great. However, upon trying to make my first appointment, I was told by the receptionist that they didn’t take my insurance and that Cigna had a mistake on their website as my insurance was only accepted for children. I asked if he was sure because I was designated to them for my HMO dental insurance site. He said I would have to call my insurance and pick a new practice. So I called Cigna upset but confirmed Shapiro is in my network for adults and Cigna called the office and straightened it out. So I called and made an appt for a new patient cleaning.

The office is beautiful with high tech equipment, but unfortunately, that is all I can rave about. I was there 1.5 hours and never even got my teeth cleaned. Apparently, new patients must go through X-rays and a consult first, which was never told to me. The X-ray tech took about 45 mins on my pictures because she was having problems with the machine, and she took numerous X-rays of my mouth which had me a little worried about all of the exposure I was receiving. She finally finished and I was told that it would be a few more minutes. I was expecting for the hygienist to return to clean my teeth, but the Dentist came and viewed my X-rays and gave me an oral exam.

Now, I’ve never had issues with my teeth and haven’t had a cavity in about 25 years, and practice good oral hygiene at home. My teeth look pretty darn good. However, the dentist told me I had 2 minor cavities, 1 that needs filling and 1 to be watched, and that 2 of my old fillings would need a crown because there likely may be decay underneath the filling because you can see some of the silver color from the filling coming through my molar. He was very nice and I felt that I should trust him. He said that someone else would return with my treatment plan.

Another lady returns with my treatment plan that is totaling $2500! Now remember, that I signed up for Dental HMO insurance because clearly, I can’t afford to pay thousands of dollars out of pocket! She says that my 2 fillings are $0.00 through my insurance but that the doctor would need to spray a desensitizing agent under the filling and that would cost me $46 each. Then she informs me that I require a debridement because I have not had a dental cleaning in a year. And the debridement would cost me $111 out of pocket! I researched debridement and it is stated they are necessary when there is too much plaque covering the teeth, that the dentist is unable to determine decay or any potential issues. This was NEVER mentioned during my exam with the dentist. He did say I have a couple spots with minor issues but that that’ll be taken care of during cleaning and was clearly able to evaluate my teeth as is! On top of that, my Cigna reference guide states that at max, a debridement under my policy would cost $70 out of pocket, yet they are wanting to charge me $111! I told her I did not want the debridement and just wanted a regular cleaning, but she said she would have to ask the dentist about that first.

On to the crowns, the dentist said he recommended 1 molar be recrowned now and the other can be watched, however, her treatment plan stated I needed both done and each were going to cost me $1200 out of pocket! So that would be $2400 in crowns WITH my HMO insurance! Back to my Cigna reference guide, crowns are supposed to cost $500 each MAX. How can they come up with $1200 for one?!

Needless to say, I walked out extremely upset and unfortunately feeling like the practice is just trying to rip me off. I am never one to complain or write reviews like this, but they texted me asking to review them, so here I am. I would like to get a second opinion, but I have HMO insurance so I can’t just go anywhere. I’d have to change my HMO site first. I do plan on speaking with the practice regarding this. I have insurance and it should be used and patient out of pocket should reflect the insurance guide.

I was very happy with the attention to detail that Dr Seth Shapiro and his assistants made in making my new teeth. They look and fit beautifully. I am happy to smile again!

After the basic x ray/photo exam, I was sedated, and when it was over, I found that they had done a filling on the wrong tooth.
So now I have additional expense, and the need to have a crown done on the tooth which was the reason I had gone to the dentist in the first place.
They need to examine their initial examination procedures.

Absolutely amazing. I have never felt more comfortable and have never had the confidence level as I do with Dr. Dari Shapiro. Her knowledge, sense of pride, and must have attitude that everything she does must be perfect are qualities that you don't find in today times.

I couldn't not feel more comfortable, could not ask for more, and have no reservations about recommending her.

I plan my visits to Florida from NY to come to Shapiro Family Dentristry. The doctors and staff are competent and friendly, which makes you feel like you are in good hands. Dr. Novak always explains what is going on and makes sure you are comfortable throughout any procedures.

I would definitely recommend going here for any dental work you need! After not going to the dentist for almost 5 years I was a little nervous about going to find out what work I might need. Although I ended up having to have a root canal and some fillings I felt really confident about having it all done because of how kind and comforting the staff is. I don't think I would want to go anywhere else after finding the best dentist I've ever had!

Thank you again for not only doing a great job technically but also making my nervous elderly mother feel safe and comfortable. Dr. Shapiro and his team are really amazing! Professional, friendly and caring.
