Familia Dental

I came in on February for a check up because my tooth was hurting. They said I need a deep cleaning and an approval from my insurance. It took 5 MONTHS later for approval.

Update: after 5 month of having my right side being deep cleaned, my left side need deep cleaning. They said they put me on cancellation list and it’s been another 6-8 month. It’s impossible to get an appointment here, and when you do, they delay it even more. They really don’t care about their patients.

Started out as a fairly delightful experience. The staff was really good with my children. My oldest has autism and had a lot of anxiety about seeing a dentist, but they worked with him and were patient.

The issue lies in the fact that I was told both of my children have cavities that need treated outside their facility. The first annoyance was that they know we have only medicaid but they gave me a list of referrals on which stated that the doctors who don't take medicaid were indicated by an asterisk. Every doctor on that list had an asterisk. So I took it upon myself to find a place that took my medicaid (University of Iowa). I asked them to refer me there.

The initial referral was in November. I have called and asked to be referred to University of Iowa about six times now (some in person appearances.) I was told they refer to them all the time. I was told that sometimes it just took a few tries. Either they are not trying at all or someone isn't reporting a major issue with the referral system. I believe Familia Dental is 100% at fault here because they're the referring entity and it's just unprofessional to not follow through and ensure the referral is completed. I even had a lady there try to argue with me that she's not to blame and shouldn't have to do anything more! I'm tired of trying to make them do their jobs and will be finding another dental office. You should too!

Literally the worst place ever. Appointments are always 5-6 months out. Customer service is awful.

My 2yr old just recently had a check up on her teeth and I must say the lady that helped her was very patient and kind to my baby. She made her feel comfortable and they did a great job managing all her extra energy if I sayso myself. I would recommend this dentist office for small children.

I needed an extraction done as I had a tooth that I had let go for FAR too long. They made me PREPAY my $400+ bill prior to extraction. I was asked to leave dental chair & go to the front lobby to pay while wearing my dental bib? How embarassing. I have NEVER had this happen.

After the extraction, I have experianced higher than expected pain even though I was and still am doing what they told me to do for after care. I called the office and my call was never returned. After another day of no callback, I called again. I returned to the office to be told that it looks like a normal extraction site & 'it was a simple extraction & should not be very painful'.

Completely disgusted at the inconsideration given. First, they made me feel as if they didnt think I could afford the bill by making me prepay & then my complaint was dismissed as if it didnt even matter or exist. Terrible. Dr. Zheng & familia dental would NOT be a recommendation.

I cancelled my future appointment & left.

If you have a child with dental pain do not go here. I do not recommend them to anyone. They just send you over a hr away. If you can even get there. Where'd they get their license? The back of a cracker jack box?

Took a while to be seen which was ok because the Women Dentist is AMAZING! She is so sweet and kind and was great with our 2 boys! Highly recommended!

The staff is friendly, but if you call you get some national phone bank who is not very helpful. I have been in twice and both times the dentist who saw me was very unprofessional when it came to explaining their report of findings and the recommended course of action. Very dissatisfied with the communication and the care now that the filling they gave me lasted less than two weeks. If you need somewhere cheap and easy to get into, I guess they are your place, but keep in mind that you get what you pay for. In this case it seems to be recent U of I grads who need some polishing.

I had a tooth pulled they left some pieces of tooth in my gums I went in for them to look at and receptionist who is not a dentist says oh it's just your jaw bone .ok coming from someone that's not a dentist that is why I was pulling out fragments of the tooth long story short she didnt want to see me. I had to call and reschedule an apt I started a new job I work 12 shifts I called to reschedule and same receptionist as befor started yelling at me you all says reschedule at the last moment. For one I'll take my money else where where they are more polite and courteous. I've been going there for years this makes me hate dentist even more I'll never go back there again

I had an amazing experience at this office! The staff were top notch, they were friendly and professional. They made me feel very comfortable to be at the dentist office. I cannot say enough about my experience at Familia Dental. I Highly recommend their services.
