Hawaii Family Dental Honolulu

My appointment was with DDS Alan Mitsunaga. He led me back to his treatment room, and introduced himself as "Alan Mitsunaga" which impressed me right away. Most physicians/dentists introduce themselves as "doctor".
I, of course, know they're a doctor and that's why I'm there to see them; nevertheless they like to remind me so I don't get them confused with the janitor. The point being that DDS Matsunaga is a real gentleman and feels no need to remind his patients of his professional position. His exam, though brief, was gentle which I really appreciated. He gave me a lot of information in an effort to direct me to the best possible treatment for my teeth, most of which was outside his area of expertise. I would recommend DDS Alan Matsunaga in large part due to his demeanor. When a person in the medical profession is as kind and thoughtful as he is you know you're going to be in good hands. Thank you Dr. Matsunaga for your time with me.

Dr Dunn is the best dentist I ever had. She has so much enthusiasm & energy. She makes you feel at ease and important. My complement also goes to her dental assistant Christina, she is a professional.

i came into the Hawaii Family Dental Center in Hilo recently b/c i changed to an HMO insurance, and this was my only choice. the dentists are great, i really like them. i had to have major work done immediately on 3 teeth. they got me in pretty quickly, considering it was the holidays. the staff is excellent, all are very gentle and considerate of my needs, respectful of my wishes. the dentists are very attentive, even after the work (have had a running email convo w the oral surgeon after a root canal and an extraction). i had to go back 2x for followups that were due to pain, so they fit me in, and i never, ever have waited more that 5-10 min to get into a chair. the dentist shows up within a few minutes. very different than the other dental services i used on the big island, where the wait can be typically 20 min -45 min.the only reason i gave 4 stars instead of 5 is b/c for 1 week they had only 1 dentist to take care of everybody. and really, i blame the health insurance for only having 1 place in hilo that all the hmo patients can go.

2nd review: i went from 4 to 5 stars, cuz i am so pleased with this dental practice. i went back to get prepped for a crown yesterday, 1 1/2 hours being worked on, and i have never felt this relaxed in a dentist's chair in my 63 yrs of life. i used to think i had a true phobia, would feel completely nerve-wracked and would put off going to the dentist for 2-3 years. (i do not recommend it, probably why i have so much i need now). that is all gone. i actually look forward to my visits, and, once again, was not kept waiting at all, even tho i arrived early. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Great Experience! The entire staff had amazing energy and were very friendly! Very knowledgeable as well. Everything was super clean and well kept. Super convenient location if you work downtown. As a new patient, it was seemles to schedule an appointment and get set up.

This appointment was for teeth cleaning, X-rays and Dentist exam. I have had Daylynn (sp?) as my hygienists since I started coming to Hawaii Family Dental. She has always been great, no concerns or issues.
Dr.Mitzunaga is a new Dr for me, this was the 2nd time. He was pleasant, but seems in a hurry. Showed me my X-rays trying to explain where he saw potential issues. Suggested we could take conservative approach (wait & See) or aggressive approach and pix potential issues (root canal, cavities) The old Root Canal has not bothered me, he said some irregular shading in X-rays may indicate a problem. The others were potential cavities, which I did not have once he did visual exam. OK to come back in 6 months. He was in a hurry to leave and said he'd finish his notes in my file later..

Sorry I forget my former Dr.'s name, I liked him, his manner and approach.
Would it be possible to change Doctor's for when I return, April 2, 2018?
My nephew also goes to your facility and really liked a female Doctor.

Shout out special THANK YOU to Dr.Lee and his awesome HFD teams from the Carlos Family, been with them for a year now and we just love taking our kids there, even our kids gets excited when we go their. Office is VERY clean and kid friendly, would recommend all my families ans friends.

Everyone was so pleasant from start to finish. Lei did her best to relive my discomfort while taking x-rays. Charice (not sure of spelling) is so awesome and made me feel taken care of. Doctor Lau is so fun and great at his job!!

From the minute I walked in the door the staff was professional and welcoming. My hygienist, Christy, called my name moments after I arrived. She was friendly, efficient and competent. Christy cleaned my teeth and then called the Dr. in to examine them. Dr. B. was also friendly and professional. He did a thorough exam and warned me of a problem area that I will want to be aware of and keep clean, so that I can avoid future actions. He answered all my questions and offered his expert advice. After Christy finished cleaning my teeth, Rowena scheduled my next visit and spent several minutes with me to find a time and day that would work in my schedule. Overall I had an excellent experience at Hawaii Family Dental - Kihei. The staff, hygienists, and Dentists are professional and welcoming. I wouldn't go anywhere else and highly recommend this office to anyone seeking dental professionals.

I am very appreciated for the services I was provided because my orthodontic brackets fell off a couple times. Dr. Stevens & his staff were very flexible and accommodating to my schedule and were able to help me resolve my problems promptly. Thanks very much!! :)

My dentist is Dr. Hearon and I think she's the best dentist I've ever been to. I love how she takes time to answer all of my questions and explains procedures to me.

The support staff at Family Dental Centers are also some of the most through and professional that I've had.

Needless to write I WOULD recommend Hawaii Family Dental Centers to Anyone.
